Add / Subtract Date

Add or subtract days, weeks, months, years or business days from a date, with month-end and leap-day rules explained.

How it works

Add or subtract days, weeks, months, years or business days. Days and weeks move by exact calendar days. Months and years move the calendar fields; if the day doesn't exist in the target month, the result is the last day of that month — and Time tells you it happened.

Business days skip your weekend and any holidays you add. The start date isn't counted: +1 business day from Friday is Monday. Public holidays are not included unless you add them.

Worked example

  • 31 January 2025 + 1 month = 28 Feb 2025 (clamped — there's no 31 February).
  • 31 January 2024 + 1 month = 29 Feb 2024 (2024 is a leap year).
  • 29 February 2024 + 1 year = 28 Feb 2025; + 4 years = 29 Feb 2028.
  • Friday 9 October 2026 + 1 business day = 12 Oct 2026 (the weekend is skipped).
  • 31 December 2026 + 1 day = 1 Jan 2027.

Edge cases handled

  • Month ends (31 Jan + 1 month) clamp to the last valid day, with a visible note.
  • Leap days (29 Feb + 1 year = 28 Feb).
  • Year boundaries (31 Dec + 1 day).
  • Business days from a weekend start date.
  • Custom weekends such as Friday–Saturday or Sunday only.
